Man, I am forgetting about this vacation and my memories will be gone before long so I have to get this finished. My goal is to chronicle this island tonight and then finish up over the weekend. I have all of next week off....yea!! I love islands. It is just something unexplainable until you have been to one. I love the foliage. These first pictures are Grenada. The only thing that I knew about Grenada was from when I was a lot younger and our government stepped in there because the Cubans had taken over their government and they were holding American students hostage. That was in the early eighties. Before the cruise I learned that it is the "Spice Island." It was beautiful and the smell on this island was amazing.
This is a view from the ship. It rained a lot that day but the rain didn't deter us. We did a tour of the island and then went to the beach.
The flowers are absolutely the prettiest I have ever seen.
There was a guy at this little store who was walking around with this really tall fruit hat on his head and wanted everyone to take his picture and then charged you two bucks for it. He actually followed you around and kept asking you to take his picture. It was really annoying. I got bored and went back to the bus to wait for the group and while I was in the bus, I took this picture of the little shack so I could remember it. If you look very, very closely you can maybe make out the guy with the fruit on his head. When he saw me take the picture, he ran over to the window of the bus and DEMANDED that I pay for the picture that I had taken of him. I told him that I wasn't taking his picture and that I was just taking a picture of the shack. Again, he demanded that I pay him. I told him NO....very firmly. He walked off after calling me some name that I am sure meant "sexy lady." Isn't this just the cutest little building though?
I loved this building. The bus driver told us that the people of Grenada are very thankful to Americans for liberating them in the eighties. It is nice to be appreciated somewhere!! This wasn't the only sign that we saw thanking America.
